Historical
information about Pellinge and this society The first written information
about the Pellinge archipelago found so far is when the Swedish king Karl wrote
a letter to his knight in Vyborg from Pellinge in year 1441. It's expected that
the main islands in Pellinge got their first population between 1000 and 1250.
The first existing taxation books are from about 1540 and already then there was
13 houses registered in three villages. Old photos.
Pellinge Hembygdsförening
i Helsingfors (PHF) was founded in 1937 by a group of active people from Pellinge,
now living in Helsinki. The meaning of the society is to take care of the collecting
of historical material from the late 19th century and the early 20th century in
order to be able to show how people in the archipelago lived in those days.
The
Museum Hörbergsgården is a museum house transferred to the museum site from
the village Söderby. Other buildings belonging to the museum are two houses where
boats are kept, a stable, a smithy, a barn and a sheep-house. The Museum is normally
open on Saturdays from 12 to 14 during summer.
Events
The society will arrange a Midsummer party, a children's party and together
with other sponsors arrange a country people's sailing boat competition in the
beginning of July. For more details, please contact the secretary by e-mail, the
addresses can be found at the "Styrelsen" page. At the museum, an exhibition will
be open on the Museum's open hours from 11th of June till the last weekend in
August. We're having a stand at the summer
market place where you can find all our publications and other interesting
things with connections to Pellinge.
Books
PHF has distributed five books about Pellinge. The books are for sale
at the market place. All books are written in Swedish. It's possible to order
the books by e-mail.
Maps
and charts The oldest map of Pellinge found so far was made 1650 - 1651.
PHF has got the right to distribute copies of the original, which is kept in the
National Archive in Helsinki. We've also made a special copy of coastal charts
connected to the Pellinge archipelago. We've filled more information to the chart
as stones, shallows, names of islands and other details.
Klovharun
The author of the Moomin books, Tove Jansson, had her summer place in
Pellinge as already her parents had. In 1995 she decided not to go to her summer
place anymore and left the cabin to PHF. We keep the house intact and this summer
we ask friends to visit the place during 13.7 -18.7.09. Other times the cabin
is in use and not allowed to visit.
